It was definitely a long time ago, probably about twenty years or a little more, when I first experienced the Women's Weekend in Wittensee on a Sabbath as a day guest. At that time the surrounding area was not yet as densely developed as it is today. Now there are pretty, inviting vacation homes with great gardens around the Wittensee Recreation Center, which has Christian leadership. This area is a real oasis for me as a nature lover.
A sister from my congregation in Lübeck gave me the impetus, it would certainly do me a lot of good if I participated in this year's women's weekend at the beginning of May. Admittedly, I hesitated to sign up for it, for various reasons. I also didn't feel able to endure the company of about thirty women for an entire weekend. But curiosity won out. And it was the best decision I have made in a long time.
On-site, we were about twenty women who took single or double rooms in the cozy houses from the eighties. The bungalows have biblical names like Simeon or Naftali. Women from different areas of the Hanse Conference came together, ranging in age from their late thirties to their mid-eighties. All of them were seasoned women with their life stories, their different, multi-layered characters, goals, and dreams.
As daughters of our Creator, we had a bond, joy, and strength that I enjoyed immensely. I was deeply moved and delighted to be a woman, to be aware of what a gift it is to be free to be me, as I am among my peers in this protected community. As women, we have strength, courage and a special inner resilience, foresight, and warmth of heart.
There were many funny and also serious conversations among us sisters lasting until the early morning hours. I have seldom talked, eaten, and laughed so much, also cried and cried along.
I would also like to report on the workshop on resilience, through which we experienced so much good this weekend, receiving and rediscovering the tools to mentally, spiritually, and emotionally face life and its adventures, coming closer to the goal hand in hand with God. Kellyane, who is from Brazil, patiently and calmly brought us closer to the subject in different stages and interactive group work.
In short, it was great and now I want to go to this "Women's Power Filling Station" at Wittensee every year.
