How we love God was the theme to which the Greifswald church and the Women’s Ministries team of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern region of the Hanse Conference had invited for a Women’s Sabbath on September 9, 2023. Twenty-five women participated in beautiful summer weather. The guest speaker was Lina Bammann from the Friedensau Theological University, who brought her husband David with her. In her sermon on the Sabbath morning based on Mark 12:29-31, Lina explained the different types of love that God has given to mankind in creation: Eros, Phileo, and Agape. The sermon was a valuable guide to loving one's neighbor and contained abundant cause for reflection. With Bible study, music, and prayers, as well as a special collection for the school Morgenroth in Kenya, the service was complete.
After a potluck lunch with all the participants, the women reflected on 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 in a roundtable discussion and tried to connect what they had heard in the morning with the text from Corinthians. During this time, a group of men from the congregation spontaneously formed a discussion group with David and then went for a walk.
Finally, there was a relaxed round on the church terrace with coffee and delicious cake. All the participants agreed: the women’s Sabbath must be repeated next year.
