Brilliant sunshine welcomed the women to the Adventist Church in Kisdorf. Karin Schmidt had her premiere as a speaker and she was just as brilliant. As a first-aid instructor at the Red Cross she presented the parallels between physical first aid and our responsibility as Christians in altruism.
In the children’s story she asked if the children knew the 5 “W” of first aid and it was surprising how much they knew. They are: Where are you? What happened? HoW many casualties? What kind of injuries? Waiting for further questions.
The sermon was based on Galatians 5:22-23 where the fruit of the spirit is described: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” These qualities are also parallels to the qualities required in first-aiders. God has also given us an emergency number to call – P5015 – “call on me in the day of trouble” (Psalm 50:15). We are not alone. All we need is the willingness to help.
In the afternoon after a delicious potluck meal the participants learned how to react as first-aiders in accidents and were also able to practice on dummies. It was a very informative afternoon which ended with a delicious cake buffet.
