The Women’s Ministries Departments of the four German-speaking regions have published a flyer about the Orange Day initiative started by the UNITE campaign of UN WOMEN. Orange Day is once a month on the 25th and people are encouraged to wear something orange as a small sign that they want to stop violence and abuse.
While the world has achieved progress towards gender equality and women’s empowerment under the Millennium Development Goals, women and girls continue to suffer discrimination and violence in every part of the world. Gender equality means empowering women and girls.
Now is the time to prepare actions and projects starting on November 25th, International Day for the Elimination of gender-based Violence, until December 10th, Human Rights Day. These 16 days are a good occasion for addressing the various ways in which women and girls are still subjected to violence and abuse. The enditnow initiative of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church can make an impact, but as with any initiative, it will only be effective as long as there a people who support it passionately and with creative projects and actions.
Also - don't forget that the fourth Sabbath in August is the global Enditnow Day when the church services should address ending gender-based violence and abuse. The Women's Ministries Department has prepared sermon and program materials for this special day. http://women.eud.adventist.org/en/resources/
This year's material "Love Protects: Healing the Wounds of Emotional Abuse" was prepared by Linda Mei Lin Koh of the Children's Ministries Department of the General Conference.
