"It is with deep concern and outrage that we report that the number of women and girls killed intentionally in 2022 – nearly 89,000 – is the highest yearly number recorded in the past 20 years.
While overall homicide numbers globally have started to fall after a peak in 2021, the number of female homicides (femicide/feminicide) is not decreasing. Most of these killings of women and girls are gender-related, and more than half of all femicides are committed by intimate partners or other family members. The risks of gender-based violence and femicide are only rising as our world is engulfed in conflict, humanitarian emergencies, environmental and economic crises, and displacement." UN Femicide Report
Femicides are a result of a patriarchal mindset in which women are considered possessions of their partners or male relatives. Men consider it their right to kill a woman who does not comply with their demands or cultural expectations.
The postoccupato.org project has inspired women in many churches to install a seat that is taken for these femicide victims. They will never again be able to sit down on the seat that is taken for them.
We thank our sisters in Spain, Germany and Bulgaria for the photos of these seats.

We are also posting a photo from the Fdei brochure published for the 16 days of activism showing the page on feminicides with the Italian statistics.
