April 7-9, 2017, was a ladies‘ weekend in the Moravia-Silesian Conference of the Czechoslovakian Union. The conference Motto was “The Power of Words” according to Proverbs 16:24 “Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones”. Our special guest was Christian Author Hana Pinknerova, a woman who knows how useful words are but also how they can hurt.
The conference began on Friday afternoon with a short welcoming speech by the Conference President Karel Stanek, wishing the participants a blessed weekend. In the evening Hana Pinknerova told about her childhood and youth and how she was confronted with God and the faith of her family. Wrapping up the evening she presented a touching text with guitar accompaniment.
The Sabbath sermon dealt with Abigail, who was able to soothe David’s anger over her husband, using the right words, thus avoiding bloodshed. In the afternoon the women took a walk in small groups, meditating on scripture texts. At the close of the Sabbath the women participated in a ceremony according to Jewish tradition, where they passed a bowl with herbs and fragrances, offering God’s blessings for the week. The day ended with the song “Hevenu shalom alechem”. Sunday was reserved for several workshops, which were much appreciated, after which the women parted in a spirit of gratitude for a blessed weekend, looking forward to repeating the experience the next year.
124 ladies attended the conference, which was specially designed just for women by a team consisting of 3 women, a photographer and a responsible for music. They wanted the ladies to relax, have time for sharing, praying and meeting friends. Women in families are on call 24/7 and need appreciation, motivation, love and the feeling of worth for God and their next of kin. The ladies were enthusiastic and made new friends, taking many wonderful thoughts and ideas home, as to how they could start a women’s group in their home churches.
