The Heaven-bound Train

Peggy Rusike

Blesssed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city.

Revelation 22:14 NKJV

I love traveling by train. In England, trains are more expensive than buses, but they are faster and more punctual. I love the way they glide their way through valleys, mountainous areas, towns, and villages. I can take every bag that I want with me on my journey, for there is no restriction of how many kilograms you can carry, as there is on planes. Trains carry a lot of people, too. Food and drinks are sold, so you don’t go hungry. In England, most people who use trains in the early morning are on their way to work. Late-morning and early-afternoon riders are usually going shopping or connecting to other cities. Evening riders are, of course, mostly people coming home from work.

But there is another train that I long for. Its coming is more anticipated than the trains of this world. No one knows the day or the hour that the train will arrive, but it will definitely arrive. This train will take on board everyone who is willing to ride – free of charge regardless of color, race, age, or gender. On this train, however, you have to be very careful about the bags you carry. The bag marked gossip won’t be allowed on board. The suitcase of anger must remain behind. The small bag marked thievery or lying won’t be allowed near the train.

However, the big bags of kindness, forgiveness, longsuffering, love, purity, and patience will have plenty of room on this train. And as we travel, food and drinks will be served at no price. Whenever you are hungry or thirsty you just have to put your hand up, and waiters in white will come to serve you.

We will pass through so many countries. We will cross so many rivers, seas, and oceans. We will pass deserts and through mountains, and on into outer space. Perhaps the most amazing thing is that we won’t need passports or visas to go on this journey. One’s heart is one’s passport. Whatever your plans in life, plan to travel on this train, for this train is heaven-bound. Don’t you want to invite your whole family, your friends, and neighbors to join you too?
