March 16-18, 2018, 32 women came together in Neuendettelsau, Germany, for a Women’s Ministries Retreat focusing on the topic “The Fabric of Your Life”. The speaker, Hannele Ottschofski, illustrated this metaphor derived from a book with the same title written by her sister Sinikka Dixon. The warp is our lifespan and the weft consists of the life cycles we are involved in: family, education, work and leisure. The life story of Joseph, whose father gave him a multicolored coat, was a fitting Biblical illustration of how even a dysfunctional family life cycle can be turned into something good. The ladies also reflected on the notion of time – “There is a time for everything”. “What stories could you tell at the end of your life?” was the final topic. When you die you can only take two things with you: memories and relationships. Start doing something about that right away. The Golden Rule of the Bible – treating others as you would have them treat you – ran through the whole seminar. The best story we can tell is our story with God.
The ladies created a loving and caring atmosphere where each felt accepted and loved. Such retreats are highlights many women look forward to in order to refresh their souls and recharge their batteries for their daily lives. Everything contributed to making this a memorable weekend – the morning praise time with devotionals, the lovingly decorated room, the good food and the good conversations. It is always such a joy to see how everything fits together to bless our souls.
