How do you bring together two women's groups that meet separately for language reasons? You do something that women like to do - cooking or baking. After the Ukrainian women showed how to make vareniki (Ukrainian dumplings) a year ago, this time they wanted to learn something new. So on November 7, 2023, the two women's groups of the Hope Center were invited to a strudel-baking evening. Around 20 women accepted the invitation and got straight down to peeling and slicing the apples for the apple strudel. Bilingual teams of two were formed by drawing lots and set to work on the various strudel recipes according to the recipe instructions. The ovens worked in shifts to bake the trays of different strudels: In addition to apple and quark strudel, poppy seed and spinach strudel were prepared, as well as variations of pizza strudel. Starting with the traditional homemade strudel dough, which is stretched until you can read text through it, ready-made dough from the supermarket was used.
After the work was done, which was a lot of fun, the group sat down to taste which strudel tasted best and to get to know each other better. Integration can happen in so many fun ways!
