On Sabbath, June 7, Women's Ministries of the Adventist Church in Sesto San Giovanni had a special guest speaker, Mariarosa Cavalieri, director of the Personal Ministries and Sabbath School Departments in Italy. “Women's Mission” was the theme of the day.
The sermon was inspired by the lives of twelve Bible women whose faith in God and courageous behavior changed the course of history. She began with the Egyptian midwives, Siphra and Pua. Their decision to disobey Pharaoh's order to kill all male Hebrew infants allowed baby Moses to be spared.
Jochebed, Moses' mother, moved by great trust in God, laid the baby in a basket right in the reeds where the royal princess went to bathe. Little Miriam, Moses' sister, who followed the events from afar, did not hesitate to come forward, offering the princess a wet nurse. This allowed not only for Moses to be nursed by his own mother, but more importantly, for the little one to grow up in the bosom of his people, learning faith in God.
Other women who are rarely mentioned should not be underestimated, like the daughters of Jethro, strong, hardworking, and faithful women. One of them, Zippora, who became Moses' wife, proved especially faithful and courageous when God demanded circumcision for Moses’ sons; without hesitation, she performed the ceremony. Meanwhile, what happened to Miriam? She became the priestess and musician of the people of Israel and, along with Moses and Aaron, played a key role during the exodus.
In the afternoon, M. Cavalieri spoke about talents: how to recognize our talents and how to ask God to bless them. In four breakout groups, each sharing a talent, we rewrote hymn texts, drew pictures, and composed poems. Every daughter of God has one or more talents, and we must return the fruits of his blessings to the Lord. We have to be prepared to say, “Here I am, send me.” We sincerely thanked Mariarosa Cavalieri for a special Sabbath in her company.
