Considering that English is the language we use to communicate in the Inter-European Division and on this site, although it is not the language of any of our countries, we recognize that we should not ignore the other languages. I would like to recommend a very interesting book in French about what the Bible has to say about women. Ever since first reading the book by Valérie Dival-Poujol, I have hoped that it would be translated into other languages.
Valérie Duval-Poujol, born May 17, 1974, is a French Baptist Christian theologian with a doctorate in religious history from the Sorbonne and exegesis from the Institut Catholique de Paris. According to the Dictionnaire biographique des protestants français de 1787 à nos jours, vol. 2, she is “the first French evangelical Protestant to obtain a doctorate in theology”. She is vice-president of the French Protestant Federation. (Information from Wikipedia)
The Bible has long been considered to justify and encourage the domination of men over women. But a careful reading of both the First and New Testaments reveals a very different picture. Far from being macho, these stories deliver a positive and liberating message about women. In this book, Valérie Duval-Poujol offers us a renewed reading of biblical texts that encourages women to fully realize their vocation. She shows that no one can use the Bible to gag women in society, or impose any kind of conjugal submission on them. Equal to men in rights, value and dignity, nothing and no-one should prevent them from putting their gifts at the service of the human and church community, as they wish. A theological and exegetical approach that reveals erroneous biblical interpretations, for a more just position on this essential question of equality between men and women.
