A new Women’s Ministries Director has been appointed in the Portuguese Union to succeed Paula Amorim. We want to thank Paula for her input to the Women’s Ministries Department. At the same time, we want to welcome Cristina Bastos as the new leader and wish her enthusiasm, courage, and creativity in further developing the work with and for women within the church and in reaching out to other women.
Cristina Bastos was born in Angola, in the Bongo Mission Hospital. Later, to avoid the war, her family moved back to their homeland, Portugal. There she had the privilege of studying in an Adventist school for nine years. At the age of eleven, she was baptized and almost one year later she was hit by a bus. This was followed by several hardships and miracles, as well as a committed intercession by several churches across the country.
Despite the negative prognosis of the physicians, she recovered to a normal life. This experience has also become an assurance for her that God had a purpose for her life. Cristina is married to Pastor Daniel Bastos and they have one daughter.
Cristina is a licensed nurse, has an MA in Education (Family Orientation), and, currently, works as a registered nurse in a hospital. She enjoys swimming, walking on nature trails, reading, and studying, but her passion is to help others and share about her Best Friend, Jesus.
We are happy to have Cristina on our EUD leadership team and look forward to working together with her.
