A dozen cheerful women met on Sunday, April 22, in front of the Straw Museum in Wohlen. But first of all it was time to enjoy a delicious breakfast in a restaurant. In the Museum the Host Friedrich August Isler greeted the group and gave a review of the history of the straw industry. Although only an agricultural by-product, straw became a branch of the economy for hundreds of years. The cottage industry of the 18th and 19th centuries developed to a major industry and the visitors were able to marvel at the machines, tools and delicate products and decorations, trying out various straw hats. The rest of the day was spent in relaxation or hiking. Three further excursions have been planned for this season and the initiators, Erika Ruegg and Renate Schneider, and all participants are already looking forward to doing things together as “Ladies on the Go”.
