Irmgard Häberle was inspired by a report on Hope Channel about the heart-shaped pillows for breast cancer patients to start an action in her local Women’s Ministry Group in Tübingen, Germany. The suggestion was taken up with enthusiasm as the women were glad to do something to help other women at a critical time in their lives. The first lot of 80 pillows was presented to Ms. Christina Köhler of the Tübingen University Clinic on July 28, 2016. The women have been coming together to sew and stuff the pillows during their monthly meetings this year. One 92-year-old lady took over cutting and sewing pillows at home so that the others only had to stuff them, being hard pressed to keep up with her production rate. The hospital will contact the group again when they need more pillows as they have no storage space for more at the moment. The action will continue after the summer break. According to Ms. Friedel Klett the clinic needs about 15 to 20 pillows each week as the current breast cancer screening system is bringing more women to the hospital for treatment in early stages with good chances of complete recovery.
