Friendship leads to God

Two refugee women are baptized in Tübingen, Germany

On July 26, 2025, two women from the Ukrainian group of the Adventist church in Tübingen were baptized. Daria and Eugenia wanted to place their lives in God's hands. Daria grew up in a Christian family and experienced God's protection in a special way as a 15-year-old girl during the first weeks of the war against Ukraine, when she and her family were able to flee from occupied Bucha. Faced with the alternative of starving in the basement of their house or being killed trying to escape, they prayed for God’s protection. Miraculously, their convoy of cars was guided unharmed by a Russian soldier (or angel?) through all the checkpoints. This experience had a profound impact on her. For more than three years, she has found a spiritual home in the Tübingen congregation and now wished to be baptized before her studies take her to another place of residence. We are very happy about this decision.
Eugenia also came to Germany three years ago with one of her children and ended up in a refugee accommodation in Tübingen. Her friend Alla says, “It was all very simple. I met Eugenia at the refugee aid center—I can't remember exactly where. I introduced myself and we became friends. Then I invited her to come to our church. That's how she started attending services regularly.” For two years, Eugenia has felt a growing desire to give her life to God and join the church. Her decision makes us very happy, and we are grateful to God that this friendship has led Eugenia to God.
Refugees live under exceptional circumstances and need a social environment in which they can feel safe. We thank God that they have found this here in our church.
