“Divine Sparks” in Valtellina

Project for Young Women

After the pilot project in Catania, Sicily, Scintille Divine landed in northern Italy. From August 20-23, it took place in Villa di Tirano, in the mountains of Valtellina, Lombardy. Here is the story of one participant.

I am here to tell you about a crazy experience that four of us, Aurora, Marta, Gaia and Giulia (ages 14 to 19), had for four days. The Divine Sparks project was a journey, and we spent this time together living in the same house. We took care of every aspect of our living together: from shopping to menus, from meal preparation to cleaning.
Under the spiritual and friendly guidance of Pastor Abigaela Trofin, we explored identity, faith, and our future with the Bible. The goal? To discover who we are, who we want to be, and how to shine our light in the world.
Day 1. Relationship with God and ourselves.
The first day was devoted to rediscovering ourselves. We began by reflecting on who we really are for us and for God. We realized that we are unique and beloved creatures just as we are, a concept that made us feel truly special. Each day we explored the story of two women, one from the Bible and one modern woman. The first were Queen Esther and Mother Teresa of Calcutta, two strong women who embodied courage and love. The game “The Mirror” reminded us that our beauty is also in the way others see us, and writing a letter to our parents helped us reflect on how to improve the most important relationships. We analyzed the five languages of love. Each of us also received a gift of 20 euros to manage for ourselves, to buy something useful, and show care for ourselves.
Day 2. Mind, Body and Emotions.
On the second day we focused on a super timely topic: our relationship with our bodies and minds. We learned to see our bodies as the “Temple of the Holy Spirit,” a place to respect and love, not to judge or hide. In the afternoon, we went to the spa. This experience made us think about how cold and hot water, fresh mountain air, and rain can affect our bodies.
The stories of the biblical Ruth and Chiara Corbella Petrillo showed us how dignity and faith can transform even the most difficult trials. We discussed social media, filters, and reality, trying to understand how to feed the mind with healthy content. And we did not leave out the topic of sexuality, talking about how important it is to know the Word of God for the care of the body.
Day 3. Custodians of Creation.
Early in the morning, with a special guest, we left for St. Moritz. It was an adventure that taught us the importance of caring for God's creation. We connected this responsibility with our future choices: what to study, work, and how to live. The biblical Lydia of Thyatira and Wangari Maathai inspired us to use our talents to make a difference. The evening ended in an original way, opening Sabbath with a trapper-themed dinner and campfire.
Day 4. Dreaming of the future.
The grand finale was a time of pure reflection in the mountains. After rereading all our notes, we asked ourselves, “Who do I want to be?” The stories of Mary Magdalene in the Bible and Malala Yousafzai guided us to realize that it is never too late to find our purpose. Our “personal mission” became the map for the future, a life project to be built day by day. Each of us also wrote a message to ourselves, dreaming with God about where and how we want to be in five years. We prayed, walked, and dialogued.
In these four days we not only learned something new, but we also discovered a part of ourselves that we did not know. Each of us is a divine spark ready to light up the world.
