On January 21, 2024, 25 hard-working and eager-to-learn women gathered for three hours in the afternoon for the first knitting course at the Dreieichenhain Adventist Church. Ljubica Gagic, who is rarely to be seen without knitting needles and wool in her spare time, patiently demonstrated various knitting skills. After a short introduction, we split into two groups. Some came without any previous knowledge and with "two left hands" and had first to learn the basics. Those who were able to multitask helped with this: talking, knitting, and listening to other people's conversations at the same time...still unthinkable for me at the moment, because I have to concentrate like crazy not to drop a stitch.
In the advanced group, the question was how best to knit a sock heel. After three hours, many a knot "came undone" and we were able to move on to the culinary part and fortify ourselves with food we had brought with us, without forgetting to find a new date for a continuation.
It will still be a while before all the beginners can present their first scarves or socks, because all beginnings are difficult. But in this group, you could only imagine how Dorcas fared in the New Testament, when she happily offered her needlework skills to other women and helped them to learn them. And we want to do the same in Dreieichenhain. Be part of it and join us!
