Consecration of Deaconesses in Gerona, Spain

Five Women Consecrated as Instruments of Blessing for the Church

On Sabbath, February 15, 2025 the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Gerona experienced a special moment of consecration. Five sisters: Ana S., DanielaR., Elcida C. Raquel A. and Zeneida M., were set apart for ministry as deaconesses in a solemn ceremony led by Pastor Juan Carlos Penalver. With the church gathered in worship, a prayer was offered asking for God’s blessing and guidance on these new servants of the faith.
The role of deacons and deaconesses in the early church was highlighted in the example of Phoebe with the words of the Apostle Paul: “I commend to you our sister Phoebe, a deacon of the church in Cenchreae. I ask you to receive her in the Lord in a way worthy of his people and to give her any help she may need from you, for she has been the benefactor of many people, including me.” Romans 16:1+2 NIV.
Also the teachings of Ellen G. White were quoted who wrote: "Women who are willing to consecrate some of their time to the service of the Lord should be appointed to visit the sick, look after the young, and minister to the necessities of the poor. They should be set apart to this work by prayer and laying on of hands.”
The moment was solemn and emotional. The new deaconesses were presented to the congregation with words of gratitude and encouragement. Each of them expressed their commitment to serve with humility and dedication, following the example of Christ.
