Working together in a pleasant atmosphere for a good cause - a win-win situation for everyone involved.
When good ideas multiply, many benefit from them. This is also the case with the “heart cushion” project for women who have undergone breast cancer surgery.
In 2016, the mother/daughter duo Petra Lolk and Sandra Groß launched their “Café Creative” to put their heartfelt wish into practice. They meet once a month to sew and enjoy social interaction with other women and men.
Last week, I had the opportunity to be there. Even though they don't just sew hearts (they also sew star beds, ostomy bags, crochet octopuses for premature babies and people with dementia, etc.), this afternoon was all about the heart cushions. Petra had already prepared the patterns at home (you can find them for free on the Internet) and we prepared the room in the “Knotenpunkt” (Adventist church in Bad Schwartau) for stitching, sewing, and stuffing the cushions together.
Except for Dorothee, all the women were guests who had heard about it from a newspaper advertisement. Andreas joined us later. It's a great and fun group.
They deliver the items to clinics, (children's) hospices, doctors' surgeries, and also give them to individuals who need comfort in difficult times and know that someone is thinking of them.
An interesting encounter was the visit of a woman who had heard about the group. She had also received a pillow after her breast operation and she wanted to thank us and tell us what it meant to her. It is always nice and encouraging to hear.
