Driving on German motorways on a Friday afternoon is certainly not the most relaxing option. But when I finally arrived in Hatten-Sandkrug, the stress of the week fell away. This was certainly also the case for about forty participants, whose journey was hampered by many roadworks. Our speaker, Stephanie Chila, presented on the topic of “The Anatomy of Faith.” What could that mean? An anatomy lesson? I was very excited when the program began on Friday evening. We began the Sabbath with songs and worship. The tables had been beautifully decorated with autumnal decorations, which immediately put us in the mood for a wonderful weekend.
“Jesus himself says of himself, ‘Whoever sees me sees the Father.’” How wonderful our eyes are! Have you ever looked closely at their anatomy? In a very detailed presentation, we were shown how magnificent and precise God's creation is. Hebrews 4:13: “And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account...” A God who sees us. The eyes, ears, mouth, feet, nose, and hands—every single part of the body was examined and explained with all the senses, based on the Bible and science. I was reminded of some Bible verses I memorized as a child, such as Psalm 119:105: “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” For some participants, this verse was their confirmation text. How wonderful it is to learn that God's creation is embedded in our genetics and our amazing anatomy, and how this is reflected in Jesus' work on this earth.
I want to give thanks, as the psalmist does in Psalm 139:14: “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” Jesus, I do not want to take my eyes off you, I want to listen to your voice, follow you with my feet, tell others about you with my mouth, and be a tool for you with my hands. Equipped with spiritual inspiration and valuable encounters, we set off on our way home again. Until we meet again next spring.
