The women from the Berlin-Mid-German Conference gathered for their annual retreat at the guest house Waldpark in the rolling east German hills from March 16 to 18, 2018.
What does a contented heart look like? The answer beamed from the face of the speaker, the new Women’s Ministries Director for the church region, Gabriele Stangl. She told with enthusiasm about her project to install a baby hatch at the Waldfriede Hospital in Berlin. With God’s grace she was able to surmount all regulatory difficulties and the baby hatch has so far saved the lives of 260 babies in the 18 years of its existence. She reached the hearts of the women, many of whom had tears in their eyes when they saw photos of these children.
The topic of the worship service on the Sabbath morning was “How do I attain a Heart full of Contentment?” Gabriele illustrated this point with the story of the friendship between Jesse Owens and the German “Luz” Long during the Hitler era. Unconditional friendship is so important!
Another topic was “How to deal with Disappointments”. Relationships thrive on forgiveness. Forgiveness means setting a prisoner free – and the prisoner is not the person who has hurt me, but I myself. Healing begins in the moment when we let go of our injuries. Contentment begins with a healthy relationship with God, a good relationship with people and a positive attitude to ourselves. God has called us to joy and not fear.
As usual the group enjoyed good food, companionship and an interesting and varied program that offered something for each and every one.
