Each year, the Federation of Evangelical Women in Italy (FDEI) produces a booklet to accompany the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence with a message for each day.
This year, the booklet concentrates on WOMEN ON THE EDGE (MARGINS) and THE SURPRISING REVOLT OF THE BORDERS
In her introduction, Mirella Manocchio, FDEI President, points out what it means to be on the margins, marginalized. But she also sees the possibilities coming from the marginalized:
“From the margins it is possible to have a different, even revolutionary perspective on things and situations: ‘from the margins and the marginalized can come teachings capable of addressing problems in a new and transformative way,’” demonstrated by the women of two rival tribes in South Sudan, who decided to seek peace instead of constantly having to mourn their dead.
Each day’s page includes information about the situations of marginalized women, but also a spiritual lesson from the Bible.
“Even Jesus was considered marginal, a poor Galilean, the son of a carpenter, who addressed the least. Yet from the perspective of the Kingdom of God, in the positive reversal of the Beatitudes (Luke 6:20-23 and Matthew 5:1-12), those to whom it belongs, who are welcomed into it, finding justice, peace, respect, and joy, are precisely those on the edge (margins), and from there they move to deconstruct a perverse society.”
