I trust in you, Lord; I say, “You are my God.” My times are in your hands.
Psalm 31:14,15 NIV
There are many interesting ways to spend our time. While reading a magazine a few days ago, I found out that in a lifetime the average American will spend six months sitting at traffic lights waiting for the light to change. They will spend one year searching through desk clutter looking for misplaced objects, and eight months opening junk mail. They will spend five years of their life waiting in lines. Three years in meetings. I think it is a whole lot more than that! We get interrupted 73 times a day. It seems like such a waste, doesn’t it? It’s crazy. Think about what really matters in life, and then think about all of those real meaningful relationship activities that we are doing – or could or should be doing. We need to get control of our time and begin spending it wisely.
Ministering to the women in different cultures, one of the challenges a woman faces – and it does not matter what culture she lives in – is not to orchestrate her life or to plan her year, but to order each day, allowing for sufficient rest, proper nourishment and exercise, and quiet time spent exclusively with the Lord.
I like to think that our lives are like a train. Like trains, our lives have a starting point and a final destination. It runs on a divinely appointed schedule and makes important stops along the way. We have a powerful engine, the Holy Spirit, who moves us along the tracks of faith and obedience. And like the train, we are well cared for and maintained by God’s Word.
Today is a special day because you are exactly where God wants you to be in your journey. Maybe you are waiting for a miracle of a promise that needs to be fulfilled, or you are eager to move on to something new. Maybe you are crying and prying for someone, or asking God for healing – or any other desire. Do not forget: just because you are waiting, it does not mean that God is not working. There may be obstacles that first need to be removed before God moves you on in His will.
The truth is, if you are waiting at a station or moving on, the important thing to remember is that your times are in His hands and that He knows what is best for you because His eyes are fixed upon you.
