God Will Make a Way

Trust in the Lord forever.
The Lord himself is the Rock.
The Lord will keep us safe forever

Isaiah 26:4 NIrV

My friend and I were sitting at the airport of Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea. We had worked in a hospital in the Highlands of Papua New Guinea for a few weeks and were filled with many memories and impressions. Now it was almost time to go home again. We wanted to spend the last weekend on the campus of the local church school. With our domestic flight behind us, we waited now for our luggage as well as an acquaintance who had promised to pick us up. Soon we were reunited with our luggage – all except my friend’s backpack, which was missing. We tried to find out where it could be. However, we received only contradictory information. The fact of the matter was that the whereabouts of the backpack were not even traceable.

Our other predicament was that the friend who had wanted to pick us up had not shown up either. How could we get to the school campus then? We had no idea where the school was located (these were the days before GPS). All our attempts to phone were in vain. Unfortunately, Port Moresby is known for a high crime rate and is not a safe place for two foreign women to be stranded. So there we sat. Trying to think up all kinds of solutions – then we finally turned to God. My friend and I prayed, pouring out our hearts, reminding Him of His promises.

His answer came through a worship song that suddenly came into our thoughts. Softly, we began singing some of the words of „God will make a way.“ That’s just what we needed. We became calm and confident. Our problem was not solved right then, but we had the assurance that God would take care of us. We finally found a taxi driver who took us safely to the campus. We were so thankful for God’s protection and His care.

Some weeks after we had returned home, we experienced another surprise. My friend’s backpack with all of its contents was found and sent home. God takes care of even the little things in our lives. Shouldn’t we trust Him with everything?
